National Pet Show 2018
The club was delighted to be at the National Pet Show on 3rd and 4th of November. The show is held annually at the NEC in Birmingham and attracts thousands of animal lovers from across the country. We are lucky to be offered a “meet the breeds” stand for free by the show organisers, and it’s a great way to show off the dogs and get the word out about Bergamascos. It was a busy show this year and as usual, the dogs drew a bit of a crowd!
On Saturday, we had Alfie, Toby, Lucca and Elizabetta on show. They were all impeccably behaved and happy to greet everyone who came along. On Sunday, as well as Toby and Mauro we had puppies Fiona (Mauro’s daughter) and Storm. It was the first time we’d had adult and really young dogs together at a show like this, so that made it easier to show people the difference between the adult and the puppy coat. It’s amazing how incredulous people are when you explain how the cute bundle of fluff will turn into a stunning coated adult.
A new feature of the show this year was the canine catwalk. We were invited onto the stage with our
dogs and asked questions by a presenter on front of a crowd. Again it was a great opportunity to show off the dogs and raise awareness of the breed.
On Sunday, we invited a select few “lucky” visitors into the puppy pen to get a bit of a closer view. It was a pleasure to see the pups so beautifully behaved and more than a few people wanted to take one of them home.
The pet show is a great event and we are very grateful to the organisers for the support that they have given us over the years. Everyone in the club is welcome to help out on the stand. It’s a busy, tiring but very enjoyable event and I’d encourage you to sign up for next year if you can.
